Opportunity Description: BVKN currently has immediate opportunities for an experienced Telecom Utility Consultant. This consulting opportunity required experience with dark fiber leasing and last-mile provider concepts. Experience consulting with a utility or a utility-like organization that leases dark fiber and last-mile internet connectivity to end-user (customers) is preferred.

Specific Deliverables:

  • Compare operational expenses to industry standards and make recommendations for improvements (i.e. “best practices”).
  • Project future data pricing, speeds, and margins and how these changes will affect clients.
  • Analyze pricing trends, mark trends, and programming cost trends and how these influence clients.
  • Analyze the impact of re-transmission agreements and how it will impact cable industry in the future.

Subject Matter Capability:

  • Analyze five-year financial forecast and supporting financial model and make recommendations to enhance accuracy.
  • Provide market analysis including the future impact of increased competition and new technology (e.g. AT&T Fiber, 5G).
  • Develop a “go-to-market” strategy to help combat the competition, customer trends, and technology of the future.
  • Analyze the impact of re-transmission agreements and how it will impact cable industry in the future.
  • Provide projections and assumptions for cable, internet and phone subscriber trends for the next five years.
  • Provide a list of options if the long-term financial forecast is not sustainable.
  • Identify new products and features which could be sold on the fiber network.
Consultants provide value to clients in gaining efficiencies and reducing risk.

Consulting Capability:

  • Secures commitment and participation from the client’s senior management by leveraging relationships
  • Develops or contributes to the engagement business case. Outlines specific performance measures, targets, and goals.
  • Delivers client solutions aligned with defined value proposition across multiple areas of a client’s businesses
  • Searches for new consulting opportunities with existing or new clients
  • Secures receivables from clients during and after completion of engagements

Knowledge Capability:

  • Utilizes specialized knowledge to produce complex work products and solutions across all phases of an engagement
  • Defines and applies appropriate methods or recognized equivalent to identified client needs
  • Anticipates and resolves technical problems with minimal technical assistance from others
  • Leverages knowledge and experience to assess alternative approaches to solving problems
  • Develops, presents, and defends conclusions, recommendations, and implementation plans
  • Leads quality reviews of smaller assigned engagements or supports reviews of larger engagements
  • Identifies technical issues impacting an engagement and implements solutions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or related experience
  • Five years of utility or similar work experience in Last Mile Fiber
  • Applicants for this position must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States and with Black & Veatch Management Consulting (i.e., H1-B visa, F-1 visa (OPT), TN visa or any other non-immigrant status).
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment on-boarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Depth and breadth of knowledge in Utility Operations
  • Knowledge of a complete engagement lifecycle.
  • Advanced technical or industry knowledge.
  • Human relations skills including collaboration and team functions.
  • Ability to understand team functions and lead operation in an engagement environment.
  • Advanced PC literacy.
